Mahjong is a tile based game which originated in China.

It is a game for four people

The group was restarted and began to play fortnightly from January 2022, however we enjoyed playing so much, we changed it to play weekly.

The various members of the group have learnt to play in different countries using different guidelines, ie slightly different ways of playing and scoring, similar but not the same .

We have enjoyed a year of mahjong, and having had time to talk about the variations we decided it was time we produced our own guidelines .

This January we met and the discussed the various ways of play and scoring. We all had slightly different variations on the same theme . Using the U3a guidelines , the British Mahjong group and our own experiences and we agreed how we, as a group, would play and score .

Andrew and Alison have produced a super “Helensburgh U3A “guide" from the points agreed. Our thanks-and appreciation go to them for the immense amount of time and effort they have spent in producing this. The comprehensive and clear lay out of the agreed hands will be an enormous help .

The format for the scoring is ongoing, update in March.

We are a lively group who enjoy playing, relaxed but keen to play well and ,of course, there is always tea and biscuits to keep us going.

Again a huge thanks to Alison and Andrew for the guidelines which will make playing even more enjoyable

we welcome new members

The Group meets weekly at the homes of members on Wednesday 2-4 pm
